You will rarely be certain. Good decisions say how sure you are and what happens if you are wrong.

1. How sure?

Say it in words people understand: "fairly sure", "very sure". Add a number if you have one.

2. Cost of being wrong

Is the decision cheap to undo, or expensive and permanent? Cheap decisions can be made faster.

3. What would change your mind?

Name the signal you will watch, and when you will look at it again.

Watch out

Hiding uncertainty does not remove it. It just means the people who rely on you find out later, usually at a worse time.

Example: a sentence that does all three

"I'm fairly sure the new rota will cut waiting times. It is easy to switch back, so let's try it for four weeks and check average wait every Friday. If waits are not down by week three, we revert."
